Does it really work?
At first, I didn’t think so. But now I see how useful and efficient AI can be, when leveraged thoughtfully. AI cannot fold the laundry or drive your kiddos to practice, but it can help with some of the logistics that happen before the task begins.
I use AI to help organize ideas, make first drafts, create schedules, critique creations, compare options, create itineraries, and get past my writer’s block. The goal is not to let technology run the home or sap your creativity. The goal is to spend less time staring at a screen trying to figure out where to begin. Sometimes using AI can be a game-changer if you tend toward overwhelm and are easily overstimulated!
Ways AI Can Save You Time
AI can help you:
- Create a weekly meal plan from food you already have
- Turn a long to-do list into a realistic schedule
- Plan errands in a more efficient order
- Create packing lists for trips, camps, or family outings
- Develop homeschool activities and discussion questions
- Draft invitations, emails, announcements, and thank-you notes
- Brainstorm birthday parties, family nights, and holiday traditions
- Break a large household project into smaller steps
Start with One Repetitive Task
You do not need to reorganize your entire life around AI.
Start with one task that takes too much time or creates unnecessary stress. Maybe you struggle with deciding what to cook each night. Maybe you spend an hour writing a message that should take ten minutes. Maybe you have plenty of ideas but cannot get them organized. Or, if you’re a teacher, you can create great, thorough feedback on student work in minutes instead of hours!
Ask AI to help with the first draft. Then review the answer, correct what does not fit, and make it your own.
A Simple Prompt to Try
I need help planning my week. Here are the appointments, meals, errands, and household tasks that need to be completed. Organize them into a realistic schedule, leave room for unexpected delays, and do not schedule every minute of the day.
The better the information you provide, the more useful the response will be. Just remember not to include private information such as full names, addresses, passwords, financial details, or anything you would not want stored or shared. See more tips on privacy here.
Save Time for What Matters
Saving time is not about fitting more work into every day.
It is about spending less time on repetitive planning or tedious tasks that can easily be outsourced so there is more time for family, rest, creativity, service, and the people who need us.
AI should be a useful tool—not another time sink or the individual in charge.
